The Painting Gods are laughing at me

Sometimes, life just knows how to throw a spanner in the works. My models are undercoated, so I sat down tonight to start painting them. Now I have a lot of paints, I had a big collection before my wife got me the huge paint set from GW. I've also been in the hobby for quite a while, so I've got some paints that GW does stock anymore.

But tonight, I only needed one, Codex Grey. Guess what, yep, no codex grey, I've got ghostly grey, I've got space wolves grey, I've got adeptus battlegrey, I've got six pots of fortress grey but not a single pot of codex grey. It sort of stops the painting dead in it's tracks.

So, tomorrow, I'm going to have to nip into GW on the way back from work and pick up another pot. In the meantime, I'm going to crack on with rehydrating my paints, only another 100 odd to go!

I've been there, so I can sympathize!

Indeed! I lament the loss of several of the old colors. I've filled in some holes in the spectrum with Vallejo, but still, they're not quire the same - definitely an issue if you're attempting to match older models. Curses!

I've had that exact problem before. Another paint issue I have is not remembering what I DO already have when I go to buy paint. For about two years I was sure I was out of Scorpion Green and bought it 3 or 4 times. I don't even know what I've ever used it on!

It happens to the best of us.

Hate that!

Any good tips for rehydrating old paint?

Yeah, I've been there too. I can also identify with TIG's memory problem; it' show I ended up with four pots of Skull White once. Luckily, it happens to be one of my more-used colors...

I've got three Bleached Bones, keep forgetting to get Ultramarine Blue, and they don't make Tentacle Pink anymore!

The other day I went to assemble some minis and my superglue was all gummed up. No problem, I thought, I know I bought more. No such luck.
Turns out I have three plastic glues though.

@Darkwing - I think we've all been there at some point matey :-)

@Mordian7th - I've actually still got quite a few of my old colours although I'm starting to get concerned about my ever diminishing purple ink pot. I'm not sure I'm ready to jump ship to another manufacturer yet though.

@TIG - Yep, I've done the same mate, thanks why I've got 6 pots of fortress grey and loads of different browns but then I did use loads of them when I was doing scenery all the time.

@POK - Yep, just wish it hadn't happen just as I wanted to get back into painting - lol

@Vinny - Actually, there's quite a few good tips and links in the comments to this post mate ...

@#2501 - At least you use that colour, it's going to take me years to use all that fortress grey - lol

@Gotthammer - I've got a stash of testicle pink, I use it for my plasma coils so I'm not running out of that for a while :-) Good point of the glue though, I should check that they haven't dried up mate.

I hate when that happens. The horrible thing is, Ive got tonnes of Codex grey. I kept thinking I didnt have any for a while, so everytime i was in GW Id pick some up!

@AJ - Yep, that happens loads to me as well mate.

@All - good news, the nearest and dearest nipped into town and picked me some up, so it's time to break out the brushes :-)
