IG codex arrived

Well, it turned up in a brown package yesterday morning, my wife looked at me with a smiling face, "well it's either your new warhammer book or it's porn", she knows me well.

I've already had a good chew through, although it's going to take a couple of weeks to get my head around the whole thing. But I'll start with something interesting I spotted. The vanquisher, I though was a great option at only 5pts more than a russ but looking closer I noticed that it's not ordinance or even a blast weapon, it's just a heavy.

Damn I thought, but then I thought some more and after much brain pain I realised that if it's not ordinance, then it can be fired along other weapons, like the nose lascanon. All of a sudden, this gets interesting. Another little nugget is the camo netting, yes it'll give you a 4+ cover save in the open but it'll cost you 20 points whereas the Tau disruption pods which do the same only cost 5pts. Bad form GW.

The new orders system look funky but that's going to take a while to get my head around. You can't give orders to vehicles and there's some special results depending on what you roll for your leadership. There's also lots of special characters who come with their own orders. It looks like you can just add them to units as and when you need them without taking up force organisation slots.

Anyway, enough for now, more laters peeps.

Couple of clarification points thanks to me dex:

1) Lumbering behemoth means you can always fire the turret weapon in addition to any other weapons you would normally be able to fire. The Vanq still does look cool though- will have to try it out at some point.

2) I believe that camo netting only grants the tank the Stealth rule (+1 to cover save), so if you're behind cover you get a 3+ but in the open only a 6+ if that, and only if you don't move. Could still be very useful for artillery that a) almost never move, b) have bad armor and c) fire from behind cover.

Yeah, it's going to take me a while to get my head around all these new rules. I hate the way they layout the new codex's, it was a lot easier to work out with the previous ones.

I'm jealous! Despite the fact that I've put my IG army on hold, I'm still itching to get my hands on that codex to daydream with. Looking forward to seeing your new lists!

Hmmm. Got my suspicious package yesterday too. Very excited: expect a post soon, methinks.
